November past and December to come

Paul Ussher

As we head into the Christmas season it is a very exciting time of year. We recognize that at Christmas the central theme is the birth of Christ. At Langstaff we appreciate that the person of Christ is at the center of all that we do. Therefore we greatly enjoy celebrating the truth that he came into this world. You can continue reading to see the upcoming events for this month of December as well a recap of what went on in November.

December to come

The month of December is one that is filled with personal commitments and family events. Langstaff greatly enjoys this time of year and as such we have a number of events planned for the holiday season:

  • The annual Sunday School Christmas program will take place on December 13th. The Sunday School teachers, the children, and their parents have all been hard at work preparing an exciting program. David Zuidema will also be joining us from New Jersey. All are welcome to come and join us at noon.
  • David Zuidema will be staying around for the monthly Youth ministry meeting. We look forward to having him and young and old are welcome to join at 8pm on Sunday the 13th.
  • The Faith's Firm Foundation series will be continuing into the next month with messages on the 2nd, 9th, and 16th. These messages will take be taken by Sam Moore and Bryan Joyce and will cover the topics of justification, adoption, and redemption respectively. To hear the messages that have already been spoken please click here.

November past

The month of November was a busy one as we wrapped up a number of different activities for the year. Below you will find some of the activities as well as some photos of what went on.

  • The Tuesday evening Kids Club drew to a close for the year. Many children were present along with their parents for an enjoyable pizza supper and message from Michael DaSilva.
  • A number of High School students enjoyed the final Friday Evening gym night for the year by playing a fun game of volleyball as well as basketball prior to hearing a short gospel message.
  • The Youth Bible Study also drew to a close for the year with a great pizza supper. A number of the young people were joined by their friends. After the pizza supper the young people played some games and Paul Ussher spoke to them about the significance of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Here are some pictures of the events past. Should you have a desire to know more or to be involved in any of the activities mentioned above feel free to contact us here.

OCTOBER PAST AND NOVEMBER TO COME!

Langstaff Gospel Hall

October Past

We were very fortunate to have an amazing month not just of weather but of good fellowship together. There is something about the time around thanksgiving when we take the opportunity to stop, look around and be thankful for all that we have. Some of those things being each other. Thankful for good friendships but more than that, a relationship that we are able to have with the God of this universe.

Youth Bible Study

Our youth bible study consisted of two sessions on dating this past month. We are super thankful to have our brothers Mike and Vince who were willing to take those sessions. These sessions were very interactive and we were able to learn lots about what it looks like to date while honouring the Lord at the same time.

Faiths Firm Foundation

A couple of weeks ago we started our new teaching series at Langstaff! The theme of this series is Faiths Firm Foundation. The purpose of this series is to go through the main themes throughout the gospel to remind us of the greatness of our God and his gospel. Two weeks ago Andrew Ussher went through an overview of the whole series and the audio and powerpoint can be accessed here. Last week Paul Ussher reminded us and encouraged us with the first topic of the series, God and His Glory. Audio and powerpoint for that message can be found here

Prayer for Long Branch

Earlier this month James Joyce shared with us the outreach work that is going on in Long Branch New Jersey. It is a great work down there headed up by Josh Valvano and many of our own young guys have gone down and had to opportunity to work with him there. Keep praying for the work in Long Branch!

November to come!

November. A month where Christmas fanatics start playing christmas music, people who should never grow moustaches attempt to do so, and winter starts to creep in. More than that though, it is a month to remember. On the 11th day of this month we take time to remember those who fought and died so that we might have freedom. What a time to also focus on remembering our glorious saviour who died so we could be free from sin!

Youth Bible Study

Sometimes sharing the gospel with those around us is so hard. We understand that we should do it but we rarely do. This month we will be having a special series with the youth on "Sharing the Gospel". Paul Ussher starting us off last week as he talked about what the gospel is and what should motivate us to share it. Next week Sam Moore will be taking up how we share the gospel with others with some practical tips. The final session of the series will be an outreach where we hopefully see this teaching put into practice and we are able to see our friends come and here the great gospel message. Pray for this effort!

Faiths Firm Foundation

The series continues throughout this whole month with with Peter Lansing and Mike DaSilva taking up the following topics: A Scriptural Perspective on Mankind, Christ and his Provision, and Salvation and its Scope. We are excited for this series continue! Hope to see you all there!

Young Peoples Ministry

We will be having our monthly ministry meeting next Sunday and we will have our brother Andrew Robertson with us for the day and for this meeting starting at 8pm Sunday Nov. 8th. Pray for him and the meeting!

Ongoing Outreach!

Both our Friday night gym night and our Tuesday night Kids Club are still ongoing with consistent and growing numbers. Praise God! Your prayer and support for these efforts is much appreciated!

We thank you all for this past month and we look forward to this month ahead. We appreciate each one of you and hope you have a blessed month. May God work in all of our hearts to make us more like his son this month!

WHAT IS PAST AND WHAT IS TO COME

Langstaff Gospel Hall

SEPTEMBER PAST

September is always a month of beginnings. Kids are back to school, students are coming and going to university, and some of us carry on with our regular routine. We had a number of events going on at Langstaff this September along with many things starting up as well!

SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC

It is not every year we have our picnic in early September but due to weather it was postponed until then. It was one of the colder ones we have had in many years but that didn't prevent it from being a good time of community together. We enjoyed everything from balancing a cookie on our faces, to finding out interesting facts about members of Langstaff, to a three-legged race. We also got to hear a great gospel message from Vince Giraldi which caused a few laughs as well.

Langstaff Group Picture.jpg

KIDS CLUB

Kids club started this past month on the 22nd! It is great to be back running Kids Club again. We had 20+ kids come out the first week and we should be getting a little more each week. We are extremely thankful for another opportunity to have fun with the kids playing sports, making crafts and teaching them valuable lessons from the Bible.

Pray for us as we continue for the next couple months in this endeavour.

FRIDAY YOUTH GYM NIGHT

Just as our kids club has come back into session so have our Friday night gym nights. With just under 20 high school age teens coming out both on the 25th and 2nd it was a great way to start our gym night that will continue all throughout the school year.

YOUNG PEOPLES MINISTRY

We had the privilege of having Stephen Vance with us for the day and we were really thankful to have him. He also took the first young peoples ministry of the season to start us off. He spoke on identity in Christ and equality among christians. If you missed the message you can check it out here

OCTOBER TO COME

The days are getting colder and we are all getting back into our routine. This month includes birthdays for some, special memories for others but for us all it includes Thanksgiving. A time where we can all pause and be thankful for the luxury, freedom and blessing we live in. What better time than this month to be thankful for one who gave up everything so that we could be saved; our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Hopefully we can all take time especially this month to be thankful. Look below for other things going on this month!

MINISTRY WITH STEPHEN HARPER

Now this has nothing to do the upcoming Canadian election but our brother Stephen Harper from Malawi will be with us this Thursday Oct 8th for ministry. There will be no Bible Reading on Wednesday night but that will be replaced this week by ministry from Stephen Harper on Thursday.

YOUNG PEOPLES MINISTRY

We will have our monthly young peoples ministry on Sunday the 11th of October (next Sunday) at 8:00 pm. Our good friend and brother Bryan Joyce will be with us to speak for that meeting.

YOUTH BIBLE STUDY

There will be two youth bible studies this month. On Oct. 17th at 7:00 pm Vince Geraldi will be taking up the topic of "Relationships" focusing on the idea of dating. On Oct. 31st Paul Ussher will be taking up the first session in our series on "The Gospel". He will talking about our motives in sharing it with others. We hope to see you there!

We hope that this is a help to all who read this! We are thankful for an amazing month that God has given us and we look forward to sharing a month ahead together.

What' Happening at Langstaff - July 27th

Langstaff Gospel Hall

With the society and culture we are in today, it is very easy to get caught up in the busyness and stressfulness of life. Just this past week a little girl sang me a song I had not heard before. The lyrics were:

I cast all my cares upon you
I lay all my burdens down at your feet
And any time I don’t know what to do
I will cast all my cares upon you.

The Lord used this little girls sweet voice and these words that she loves to sing to speak to me. He used these words to ask me to come to him, pour my burdens, my cares and all of my anxiety into his loving and all powerful hands.  So may we all be reminded and encouraged to turn to him this week. May we all rest on him and cast all of our cares and burdens on him, the one who loved us and died for us.

Missionary Prayer Meeting - Wednesday Night @ 7:15pm

This week in the place of our regular prayer and bible study we will have a missionary prayer meeting. We will have a brief overview of how the Lord is using Mr. Ragu and of his efforts in India. This overview will be given by our brother Vince Giraldi.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the Pan Am games outreach. Yesterday evening was the closing ceremonies, and we had a good turn out downtown and distributed many pamphlets. Thank you to all who have been praying for this work. Please continue to pray! A special thank you to those who worked so hard organizing all of this effort!

What's Happening at Langstaff? - July 20th

Langstaff Gospel Hall

Yesterday we had the privilege to once again come and remember our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ, and to worship and praise him. We were also privileged to have Mr. Keith Bailey with us, who labours with his wife in Zambia. He spoke to us specifically about the work they do there with the children, and the girl's house that they have started and help to run. While hearing about this work encouraged us, it stirred our hearts and challenged us to remember the children we can reach here in our own neighbourhoods. May we all face this new week with a focus on others, both children and adults, and with a desire to share the wondrous love of our Saviour with them.

Pan Am Games Outreach

The Pan Am games outreach will be continuing this week. There is still a need for volunteers so if you are available please sign up online, or speak to Peter Lansing or Gary Williamson. The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday night (July 26th). We have cancelled our regular gospel meeting on Sunday night to encourage as many who are able to come out and help with this effort. For those we are not able to make it, please keep this outreach in your prayers.

What's Happening at Langstaff? - June 22nd

Langstaff Gospel Hall

Yesterday was a day where we all paused and thanked our father's for who they are and all they have done for us. At Langstaff we also paused yesterday to be thankful for our heavenly father. There are some who have not experienced the love of an earthly father, but it is amazing to know that God has shown his love to each and every one of us!

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
— Romans 5:8

What's Happening at Langstaff? - June 15th

Langstaff Gospel Hall

We were privledged to have our brother Andrew Robertson with us for the day at Langstaff yesterday. I am sure many of us were encouraged and challenged by his messages. Our prayer, is that we would all take what we have learned to heart. That we will all live our lives focused on our Lord Jesus with him holding our treasure and our hearts, and that we will live with hearts and minds free of worry and full of faith in our God.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

... And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.

We were reminded that no matter the circumstance, and no matter who we are or where we may be, we are loved by him! What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.
— 1 Corinthians 2:9

We were reminded this morning by Mike DaSilva of how our Lord Jesus has the very best in store for those who love him. So as we face a new month and a new week, our prayer at Langstaff is that we would be able to have an eternal perspective. We hope that all of us will live everyday with a focus on Christ, the one who gives true purpose, joy, contentment and so much more!

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What's Happening at Langstaff?- May 18th

Langstaff Gospel Hall

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understand, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 4:5-7

Yesterday afternoon we were reminded of several truths found in the fourth chapter of the letter to the Philippians. It was comforting to be reminded that we have a God who loves us, who is in control, and who offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding. For those who enjoy a relationship with Christ, may we live this week with a mind and heart focused on Him. For those who have not accepted Christ, we pray that you will understand how loved you are by the God of this universe, and that you will accept Him as your personal saviour.

Whats Happening at Langstaff?- May 11

Langstaff Gospel Hall

Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
— John 20:21

The Lord Jesus is the best missionary this world has ever had. He came into this world to show His love and to die for us. He was the first to come and share this wonderful message of salvation and now he sends us. We at Langstaff feel the weight of this call. We seek to carry it out both locally and globally. This week we enjoyed hearing about the gospel going out around the world at our annual Missionary Conference. Keep reading for other updates from this week at Langstaff

Langstaff Missionary Conference:

This past weekend we had our annual Missionary Conference. We had five missionaries from different countries come and give reports on the work in their country and some share some ministry with us. Thank you to all who attended and to those who worked hard to make the weekend run smoothly. The effort and help put into the planning, the messages and the meals was all appreciated. God is a great master to work for and your efforts, although perhaps unnoticed by many, were certainly noticed by him!
